Chunky!

A pandemic hobby and side hustle turned portfolio piece—Chunky! highlights my strengths as a designer, my passions outside of design, and the type of work I love to do.

Baking the world a better place.

Baking is one of my greatest passions. During the pandemic, I stayed connected with my loved ones by making and sharing sweet treats. With the rise of anti-Asian hate crimes as a result of the pandemic, I wanted to do more to give back to the community and make a larger impact as well.

I decided to start a small cookie business out of my own kitchen—my ultimate goal was to give back, so I donated a portion of the proceeds from each sale to Stop AAPI Hate.

Logo

My cookies were soft, chewy, chunky, and comforting—so I designed a logo that looks just like that. I was inspired by the organic look and feel of other bakery and sweets logos.

Sweet escape

I baked as a means of relief and escape from the turbulent and sometimes scary world around me. So, I designed the Chunky! brand as a cookie universe that provided comfort and joy through the sweetness and warmth of a sweet treat.

Giving back

A portion of the proceeds from each sale I made was donated directly to Stop AAPI Hate, a “U.S.-based coalition dedicated to ending racism and discrimination against Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.” They “…strive to advance the multiracial movement for equity and justice by building power for our communities, working in solidarity with other communities of color, and advocating for comprehensive solutions that tackle the root causes of race-based hate.”
